Update on Connecting Fairfax City for All Initiative

The Connecting Fairfax City for All Stakeholders Group will present its recommendations regarding confederate iconography in the City tonight. According to the Engage Fairfax website:

“The Connecting Fairfax City for All stakeholder advisory group will present recommendations to City Council during a public meeting at 7 p.m. at the Sherwood Community Center, located at 3740 Old Lee Highway in Fairfax.

The public is welcome to attend this in-person meeting, but there will not be an opportunity for the public to speak. Council will be taking no action at this meeting. The meeting will not be televised and there will not be a virtual link. Copies of the advisory group’s report will be available at the meeting.”

The stakeholder group will then present final recommendations for proposed changes to the city seal, historic markers and monuments, and street/neighborhood names to the City Council in a Work Session on September 14.  On September 28, the City Council will discuss those recommendations at a Work Session.

The public may attend these sessions, but not participate.  An opportunity for the City Council to receive public input will be presented at a later date.
