Meet three nominees for MWCA president

As the process of electing our community board’s new president approaches this October, it is with great enthusiasm that we introduce the three outstanding nominees for this pivotal role. Each candidate brings a unique blend of passion, experience, and vision that promises to guide our community into a thriving future. Below you will find a spotlight on each nominee designed to help you make an informed decision when casting your vote at the Annual General Membership Meeting.

Susan Olenchuk, 34-year resident

Relevant experience: MWCA Board Member, Lamb Center volunteer, election officer for the City of Fairfax, active member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Vienna.

“My priority as president would be to continue the good work of the MWCA Board to support activities and events that keep Mosby Woods a warm and welcoming neighborhood where people want to live, raise their families and engage with neighbors.”

Francis Dietz, 10-year resident

Relevant experience: In addition to neighborly assistance to at-risk residents, I was very active in the discussion regarding street name changes and in the neighborhood name-change issue.

“Mosby Woods is the largest neighborhood in Fairfax City, but its influence with Fairfax City government has not been commensurate with its size. In just the past few years, the city has undertaken or planned initiatives (street name changes, Snyder Trail extension, Fair Woods Pkwy ‘neighborway,’ traffic light change at FW Pkwy and Fairfax Blvd.) that have/will greatly impact large numbers of our fellow MW residents. In addition to its demonstrated excellent efforts to bring our community together as neighbors, I believe the Board must be vigilant and proactive with city leaders on issues that affect our community. As a communications professional, keeping Mosby Woods residents informed about issues and initiatives that may affect them, both from inside and outside the community. is of great importance to me. Being an advocate for our neighborhood with the city government and the police department will also be a top priority.”

Laura Gerber, 13-year resident

Relevant experience: MWCA Pool Board Member, MWCA Block Captain, and previous roles in an HOA (secretary, president)

“I’ve seen many changes within our community & I welcome our new diversity. I would love to be a part of a board Committed to better & more transparent practices. I love interacting with members of this community and I think they deserve a more active president. I want to allow more of the community to be engaged – open up communication on our FB page, disseminate more information to the membership, file documents online so they are accessible, work on a better partnership with the pool, and create a dialogue with city council.”

Thank you to our nominees for your leadership and your service to our community. Additional nominations may be made from the floor at the October General Membership Meeting. (The date for this meeting and other fall events will be determined by the board in their September 5 meeting.)
